The MSN Messenger History Merging application can merge the XML history files of the MSN Messenger and the Windows Live Messenger. This is useful when using multiple machines running the Messenger (e.g., office and home) with the history logging turned on.
In this scenario, each machine has its own copy of the history files; each copy corresponds to the same recipients but in different times. This utility will look for history files of the same recipient in two different folders and create a merged version of the history file for every recipient found.
MSN Messenger saves the conversations history as xml files. The files are located by default in “My DocumentsMy Received FilesHistory”; where corresponds to the MSN profile name used to log on to the Messenger network. MSN Messenger saves a single xml history file for each recipient, so when using multiple instances of MSN Messenger (e.g., one instance from your home box and the other from your office box) there will be different folders with history files corresponding to the same recipients. There is no easy way to view all the conversations done for single recipients from various instances.
This tool aims to close that gap: the purpose of this tool is to merge the history files from 2 such history folders into one folder. This is done by merging the messages from each recipient history file and copying the merged file to the merged folder, as defined by the user.

The tool has these modes:

Usage:
1. Navigate to your MSN Messenger History (either My Received FilesHistory folder or your account’s MSN History)
2. Double click the MSN History Merger icon.
3. Click the “Select Folder” button. If it is your first time using the program, it will take a while for the program to search for the folders containing the history files corresponding to your contacts.
4. Choose either “Folder1” or “Folder2” as the destination folder for the files.
5. Click OK.
6. You will now be asked to specify the recipients. Please note that the application searches the history files corresponding to the same recipients only. Once the application finds messages corresponding to the same recipients it will merge them. This might take a while.
7. Click OK
8. Do not close the application until the process is complete!
9. The application will create a new folder in your “Mismatched Messages” folder called “MergedMessages”. The application will also create a new file in this folder called “MergedMessages.zip”. The program will indicate the total number of files it has found in the first “MismatchedMessages” folder and the number of merged messages it has found in the second folder.
10. Click “OK” to complete the process.
If you are happy with the results, click the “Open” button in the program.
Otherwise, click the “Cancel” button in the program and close it.
