Most computer systems have two versions of Photoshop. The latest version of Photoshop is Photoshop CC 2015 Torrent Download or 2018. This latest version, however, has very little additional functionality over the Photoshop CS6 that was released around 7 years ago, and I show how to use those older versions of Photoshop, too.

Working with layers

One of the most fundamental concepts of Photoshop is layers. A layer is a view that is used to contain an area of your image. In the following sections, I take you through all the various layers features in Photoshop, plus a few extras.

Creating layers

To create a new layer, follow these steps:

1. With the image open in Photoshop, press Ctrl+N (⌘-N on Mac) to create a new document window.

2. Drag an image in and drop it on the image window on the workspace. You can use one of the palettes to drag an image from or save an image from another location to the Photoshop workspace. You also can use the folder browser to locate a photo.

3. Double-click to open the image or click once and then hold down the Shift key.

As you can see in Figure 9-1, the image will be contained in a new layer within the image window.

Laying down a layer

To place a layer on top of another layer, do the following:

1. In the Layers panel, open the Layer Settings dialog box by clicking the small icon between the two layer windows. It appears on the bottom of the Layers panel in most views and on the left side in Library mode. In Library mode, you must click the dialog box icon directly above the layer thumbnail to open the Layers panel.

2. Click on the thumbnail of the layer to add a check mark on the thumbnail to select it.

3. Click and drag the layer thumbnail in the Layers panel to move it to the layer you want to add it on. A yellow line will appear at the edge of the layer that shows the position where you place the layer.

To remove a selected layer, select the layer icon in the Layers panel and click the Close dialog box launcher in the Layers panel to bring up the dialog box to exit that layer, as shown in Figure 9-2.

The Taliban have threatened to attack the Olympic Games in Brazil next year, according to a memo allegedly recovered in Afghanistan.

The threat has been reported by the BBC’s South Asia correspondent’s Dale Gavlak in Kabul, but he says his source in the Afghan government disputes it.

A UN report said the Taliban had increased attacks on security forces.

In a propaganda video posted on Sunday, the Taliban said “the army of the Islamic Emirate” would march on the Games.

It accused the Afghan government of “cowardly collusion” with the Olympic Games organisers, saying they were a Western “military machine”.

No-fly zone

The BBC’s South Asia correspondent, Dale Gavlak, says the Afghan government says the threat is false, and that the latest report is likely the work of a Taliban sympathiser.

On Monday, the UN reported that the Taliban had mounted an increased number of attacks on Afghan security forces during the first half of this year.

Attacks on forces have increased from 11 a day in the first three months of 2011, to 25 per day in the same period this year.

The Afghan president Hamid Karzai has called on the international community to help strengthen the Afghan security forces and help them prevent the Taliban from carrying out any more attacks.

On Sunday, he told the BBC the Taliban should be given an ultimatum to “stop attacking Afghan security forces” and “stop attacking civilians” by the end of August.

“Otherwise,” Mr Karzai said, “the American people will vote them out in November and the Afghans will show them the door.”

Last month, UN envoy to Afghanistan Jan Kubis said he was concerned about the “increase in violence”.

“It has been more frequent and it has also been more intense,” he said.
