I have been looking around for some examples on the web and see that it is fairly standard to use interfaces when you want to decouple things from the calling code.
However, I am a little confused about the implementation of interfaces.
Let’s say you have the following interface that you intend to implement:
public interface IEngine
void DoSomething();

Now, let’s say you have a class that implements this interface (likely in a form of a library):
public class SpecificEngine : IEngine
public void DoSomething()
Console.WriteLine(“This is the engine of specific type”);

What I see now is that there is an abstract interface (that can be implemented) and a class that implements it.
Is this a bad practice? Would the interface become useless if I changed the actual implementation to the following:
public class SpecificEngine : IEngine
public void DoSomething()
Console.WriteLine(“This is the engine of specific type”);


If the interface is an abstraction of existing functionality, it’s a good thing to separate that out.
But if it is just a new function, a new set of functions, then you should maybe just add a new method. (The fact that it’s an interface rather than a class has nothing to do with the decision.)
In this particular case, it seems unlikely that you’d want to change the interface of the library, unless you were changing the behaviour of some existing functionality.
(In that case, I’d suggest a new interface with the new functionality, just in case the interface was chosen for some other reason.)
