What’s New in the?

User Manager for Domains (UMDF) is a Windows NT 4.0 tool you can use to
manage security for Windows NT 4.0 domains, member servers, and
workstations.
For Windows 2000 domains, member servers, and Windows 2000 Professional
computers, use Active Directory and the other Windows 2000
administrative tools instead.
This sample NT 4.0 domain controller is a single-machine NT 4.0
domain, with a member server and workstation computers. It uses the
Microsoft NT 4.0 directory service (NTDS) and Kerberos 5 to provide
security for its member server and workstation computers.
You can use UMDF to register users, groups, and computers, to make
Kerberos tickets, and to make NTDS directory information.
A NTDS domain database is created automatically when you run UMDF. To
test the domain controller, type “network” to the command prompt and
type “con” to connect to a domain controller. In a domain, you can log
on by using a user name and password.
You cannot log on to a UMDF domain controller as a guest. You must log
on as a local administrator.
You can use UMDF to set password attributes and local security policies,
configure computer properties for domain members, create new computer
objects, manage groups, and make other administrative decisions. You
also can set a mapping for a user name and NT user ID to a group name
and group ID.
Some things you can’t do in UMDF:

You can’t set user account properties or password policies.
You can’t create users or groups.
You can’t delete users or groups.
You cannot view information about a user or group.
You can’t change a user’s password or PIN.
You can’t change local security policy.
You can’t set a password for a guest.
You cannot use proxy servers.
You can’t display the NetBios name or the server name in the
Computer dialog.
You can’t renew a user account or group.
You can’t change the NT password on a new computer.
You can’t set auditing options.
You can’t administer a password change when the account is disabled.
You can’t modify users
